The e-fuel plant project for aviation and its connection to the electricity transmission network
Hynamics, a subsidiary of the EDF Group, announces the launch of a preliminary consultation from December 16, 2024 to March 9, 2025 on Take Kair, the project to set up an e-fuel production plant in Donges, mainly for aviation and its connection to the electricity transmission network (RTE).
Organised under the aegis of the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP), the consultation aims to involve all the stakeholders in the territory. Since 30 November 2024, the consultation website has been online to allow everyone to find out about the project's issues. A public launch meeting will be held on December 17, 2024 in Donges (Loire-Atlantique).
Take Kair is an innovative project for the construction and operation of an e-fuel production plant, mainly for aviation, in Donges, on the Nantes \u2012 Saint Nazaire Port port area.
E-kerosene is one of the solutions to limit CO2 emissions and contribute to the fight against global warming. Take Kair would thus avoid more than 130,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The consultation website:
It contains all the information relating to the process: the consultation file and its summary, the regulatory opinion, the dates of the events, the frequently asked questions, etc.
From 16 December, the website will also host a participatory space allowing everyone to submit observations and questions.
Open to all, the meeting will take place in Donges, in the Salle des Guifettes, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Registration, which is optional, can be done on the consultation website.
This meeting will be followed by public information meetings, thematic round tables and meetings:
- Two other public meetings: in January in Saint-Nazaire (date to be announced) and on March 4 in Donges ;
- Two thematic round tables (open to all):
- "The economic and ecological transformation of the territory", in February (date to be announced) in Saint-Nazaire;
- "What are the ways to decarbonize the aviation industry?" in February (date to be announced) in Saint-Nazaire.
- Three field meetings to discuss with the inhabitants:
- at the supermarket in Montoir-de-Bretagne, on January 8, 2025;
- at the end of the school in Donges on January 9
- at the Donges market on February 27, 2025.
- Two meetings dedicated to sectoral players (dates to be announced):
- with environmental associations;
- with economic, industrial and academic players.
- A meeting with the middle school students of the Arthur Rimbaud middle school in Donges.
During the consultation, the exchanges will be supervised by two guarantors appointed by the National Commission for Public Debate:
Mrs. Mireille AMAT
Guarantor domiciled in Pays de la Loire
Mr. Bernard PACORY
Guarantor domiciled in Pays de la Loire
Presentation of the project owners:
Hynamics, a subsidiary of the EDF Group
Hynamics, a subsidiary of the EDF Group specialising in renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, is the project owner in charge of the development, construction and operation of the Take Kair project's production plant.
Hynamics initiated the referral to the National Commission for Public Debate.
In a world that is actively seeking sustainable solutions to fight climate change, Hynamics has emerged as a key player in the development, construction and operation of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen production infrastructure. With its experience in the decarbonization of heavy mobility and industrial processes, Hynamics is leading the development of a project with Take Kair to offer a solution for the use of electricity in the manufacture of e-fuel (synthetic fuel) to support the decarbonization of new sectors, such as aviation. The association with the licensor Axens (IFPEN group) will enable the deployment of the hydrogen and CO2 transformation process into e-fuel.
Take Kair is fully in line with the EDF Group's raison d'être: to support the electrification of uses to reduce our carbon footprint. It could pave the way for the structuring of a French sector around e-fuels for mobility in the maritime and air sectors.
RTE
RTE, the operator of the French public electricity transmission system, is the co-project manager, in charge of the electrical connection of the project.
The law has entrusted RTE with the management of the French public electricity transmission network. The company's mission is to operate, maintain and develop the high and very high voltage network in order to ensure its proper functioning. It is responsible for the 106,047 kilometres of high and extra-high voltage lines and 51 cross-border lines (called "interconnectors").
RTE transports electricity between electricity suppliers and consumers, whether they are electricity distributors or industrial companies directly connected to the transmission network, regardless of their location. He is the guarantor of the proper functioning and safety of the electrical system. RTE shall ensure fair, transparent and non-discriminatory treatment for all users of the electricity transmission system. Under the provisions of the Energy Code, RTE must ensure the development of the public transmission network to allow the production and consumption of electricity to evolve freely within the framework of the rules that govern them. For example, any consumer can increase or decrease his or her consumption: RTE must constantly adapt the network to make this option possible. As a
that as responsible for the public electricity transmission network, RTE carries out its public service missions by:
- ensuring a high level of quality of service;
- supporting the energy transition and economic activity;
- ensuring exemplary environmental integration.
