Hynamics and EDF Renewables UK bid for pioneering Tees Green Hydrogen : project shortlisted by government

Hynamics, a 100% subsidiary of EDF Group specialising in hydrogen, and EDF Renewables UK have been successful in being shortlisted for the government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) for phase two of their Tees Green Hydrogen project.

This is the second time the project has received backing from government, with phase one of Tees Green Hydrogen awarded in Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 (HAR1) in 2023.

Tees Green Hydrogen is a pioneering project that will use electricity from low carbon sources to produce electrolytic renewable hydrogen. This hydrogen will then be supplied to local industry to support decarbonisation efforts, leading to a significant reduction in industrial pollution.

Phase two of Tees Green Hydrogen will see a 100MW electrolyser developed adjacent to the 8MW phase one electrolyser. This phased approach will enable the project to scale in-line with demand from industry for hydrogen.

With the positive shortlisting announcement, Hynamics and EDF Renewables UK will continue to work with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero during the due diligence phase. Progress on phase one of Tees Green Hydrogen continues to be made and more details on this will be released in due course.

The Net Zero Hydrogen Fund

The Net Zero Hydrogen Fund is a £240 million programme overseen by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, aiming to support the commercial deployment of hydrogen production projects across the UK as part of the UK Government’s wider net zero strategy.
